DESCRIPTION:History of Scuba Diving\nJoin us for our monthly Scubadillo Dive Club meeting \nThursday\, Sept. 3 \nGet in the mood for the long weekend and enjoy a great presentation and camaraderie with fellow Scubadillos at our monthly meeting\, Thursday\, Sept. 3\, at Bobbie’s Social House. It’s located at the southwest corner of Frankford Road and the Dallas North Tollway. \nScubadillos David Prichard and Lily Mak will present a fun\, interactive “History of Scuba Diving.” This will include a trivia game\, as well as interesting facts to know and tell. Bring your “thinking cap.” \nBIG\, BIG\, BIG NEWS\nWith football season coming soon\, we are moving our regular\, “first Thursday of the month” meeting day to the first TUESDAY of the month\, beginning Oct. 6. Make a note and don’t forget. \nUpcoming events\nMark your calendars and make sure to join us: \n\nSept. 11 – Happy Hour at TBD\nSept.12 – Annual Underwater Poker Run at Wheeler Branch Park\nOct. 6 – Monthly meeting on TUESDAY\nOct. 16 – Pop-up event: “Whalefall” movie\nOct. 17 – Annual Pumpkin Dive at Tyler State Park\n\nMonthly meeting details\nOur meeting begins at 7 p.m. If your schedule permits\, please come for the social/dinner hour around 6 p.m. \nBring some cash for the raffle\, which offers fun\, mostly useful items! \nFins up!

DESCRIPTION:Try Your Hand at the Underwater Poker Run\nBet You Have a Good Time!\nPack your gear and a side dish and join us for the Scubadillo Dive Club’s annual Poker Run event. Dive-buddy contestants will compete to have the best five-card poker hand from our underwater “playing table.” Of course\, you can dive\, but it’s not required to join in on the food and fun! \n\nWhen: Saturday\, Sept. 12 | 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\nWhere: Wheeler Branch Reservoir Park (Glen Rose\, TX)\n\n\nEvent Details\nCost & Park Info\nThe park entrance fee is $10 per person. Please note that overnight camping is not allowed. Pets are permitted but must be on a short leash (6 ft. or less)\, and you are responsible for picking up after them. Clean bathrooms are available on site. \nFood & RSVP\nWe will fire up the grill around noon. The club will supply the main course (burgers) and the “fixins’.” Please bring a side dish to share. You will have 45 minutes to “improve” your hand as you take and replace cards to build the winning standard poker hand (flushes\, straights\, four-of-a-kind\, full houses\, etc.). Great prizes will be awarded to the top hands at the end! You do not need to bring a buddy; we will happily pair you up if you come solo. \nDiving at the Reservoir\nThe lake has a dive platform\, a sunken bus\, two helicopters\, and lots of fish! It might be chilly\, so a 3-5 mil suit is recommended. Arrive early (around 11:00 a.m.) if you intend to dive outside of the poker run. Expect 80 degrees on the surface\, but it gets much colder past the thermoclines. For deep dives (past 60 feet)\, bring proper hoods\, gloves\, and lights. It is essentially a night dive at that depth\, though the water gets beautifully clear! \n\nGetting There\nWheeler Branch Reservoir is an easy day-trip from Dallas (about 77 miles from DFW Airport). If you make a weekend of it\, check out the nearby Dinosaur Valley State Park or the 1\,700-acre Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. \nDirections from the Dallas area: \n\nTake I-35 south past the Dallas Zoo.\nTake the right-hand split on Hwy. 67 south through Duncanville\, Cedar Hill\, Midlothian\, Alvarado\, and Cleburne.\nOnce in Glen Rose\, take Bo Gibbs Blvd. (CR 301) near the Expo Center/La Quinta intersection.\nGo west for a half-mile\, turn north on CR 301\, and veer left onto CR 326 at the “Y” intersection.\nFollow it to the park entrance and look for the bright yellow Scubadillo signs and banners at the pavilion!\n\nQuestions?\nPost your questions on the Scubadillo Dive Club Group Facebook page.
