Lake Travis is located just to the northwest of Austin. We will go diving off the Giant Stride on: \n\nSaturday afternoon (1-5pm)\n\nNote that they also have slots for Saturday morning 8-12.30 and Sunday morning 8-12.30 if you want to do more diving. \nWhat is the Giant Stride\, you ask? The Giant Stride is a bona fide dive boat!!! On Lake Travis!!! Yes! So\, the Giant Stride is a Coast Guard certified 30 foot pontoon dive boat operating on Lake Travis. The boat operator is Lake Travis Scuba!! Check them out on the web (https://www.laketravisscuba.com/) \nCost and reservations: You will need to make your own reservations online at https://www.laketravisscuba.com/ and the cost is $65 pp. The Giant Stride will haul us out into the middle of Lake Travis. Depending on the temperament of the boat captain\, the Giant Stride will either drop us into the lake in the middle of nowhere; or if we ask politely\, Robert\, the boat captain\, has his favorite dive sites. Dive sites such as: Starnes Island\, Fiesta Haus Wall\, Oasis Wall\, The Shaker Plant\, West Point Cypress Creek Wall\, Wreck Alley. What is that? You say you have never heard of any of these dive sites? Well\, you have never been aboard the Giant Stride. Please come join us! It will be a blast! I promise. Note: make your reservations now at LakeTravisScuba.com. The boat is open to everyone and will fill up. \nEquipment: You must have all your equipment including weights and tanks and something to drink. The diving fee to board the Giant Stride is $65. For $65\, we all get to take a 4 hour\, 2 tank\, dive excursion to wondrous dive sites across Lake Travis!! These dive sites are only accessible by boat so the dive fee is well worth it!!! Please come join us! \nNote: They also offer two tank rental for $25 where they will have the tanks available on the boat. Take I-35 south of Dallas and then take Hwy. 67 to Glen Rose. In Glen Rose\, take Bo Gibbs Boulevard and turn north on County Road 301. At “Y” intersection\, veer left on CR 326 and follow to park entrance. Look for the Scubadillos bright yellow banners.Cost\nFREE to members\, $10 non-members.Park fee\nPark entrance fee is $10 per person. (This is separate from the Dillos fee\, noted above.) Overnight camping is not allowed. Pets are allowed in the park\, but must be on a short leash (6 ft. or less) and you have to pick up any deposits. You’ll find nice\, clean bathrooms on site. \nFood\nWe will fire up the grill around noon. The club will supply the main course (burgers) and the “fixins’.” Please bring a side dish to share.  \n**RSVP**\nSign up here so we’ll know how many burgers we’ll need AND what side dish you’ll have to share. \nWhat to bring \n\nFolding chairs\nSunshades\, sunblock\, hats\, etc.\nBeverage of choice (be discreet if you have “adult bevs”)\nSide dish to share\nSwimsuits and dive gear\, towels (optional)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDiving\nThe lake has a dive platform\, a sunken bus\, two helicopters\, and lots of fish! Might be chilly; 3-5 mil suit recommended. Be sure to arrive early (approx 11 a.m.) if you intend to dive. Expect 80 degrees on the surface at this time of year and colder past the various thermoclines as the lake can get past 60 feet for true deep dives. Bring proper hoods\, gloves and lights if you go this deep as it is a night dive at this depth – but the water gets clearer!\nLet the game begin!\nAfter lunch\, the “playing field” will be laid out at about 20 feet with two decks of special plastic-coated cards (one red\, one blue) on lines with clips attaching the cards. Each buddy team will be allowed to collect a maximum of five cards at one time. You will have 45 minutes to “improve” your hand as you take and replace cards to create the winning standard poker hands (flushes\, straights\, four-of-a-kind\, full houses\, etc.). Great prizes will be given out to the top poker hands presented at the end of the time period. You do not have to have a buddy to come. We will buddy you up if you do not have one.\nGetting there\nGlen Rose is about 77 miles from DFW Airport\, off Hwy 67 south of the Fort Worth area and slightly southwest of Waxahachie. You could do an easy day-trip from Dallas. If you make a weekend of it\, you could visit the nearby Dinosaur Valley State Park or explore the 1\,700-acre Fossil Rim Wildlife Center.\n\nFrom the Dallas area\, take I-35 past the Dallas Zoo and take the right-hand split on Hwy. 67 to Duncanville\, Cedar Hill\, Midlothian\, Alvarado and Cleburne. In Glen Rose\, take Bo Gibbs Blvd. (CR 301) near the Expo Center/La Quinta intersection and go a half-mile west to see the park entrance where you will veer left at the “Y” intersection onto CR 326. Annette has a beautiful\, large back yard! \nRSVP BY THURSDAY\, NOV. 13 \n**USE THIS SPREADSHEET** \nLet us know: \n\nIf you are coming and number of guests (so we’ll have enough plates\, bowls\, sampling cups\, etc.)\nIf you are bringing chili\nWhat side dish you are bringing. Whether it’s an appetizer\, cornbread\, chips\, veggies or dessert. If you are bringing chili\, your side dish is OPTIONAL.\n\nCONTEST DETAILS\, RULES \n\nContestants: Your chili must be pre-cooked and in a crock pot.
