DESCRIPTION:It is time for wine\, cheese\, and cold-water diving. The Diving Rebels and the Scubadillo\nDive club will be at the Marietta Landing campground at Lake Murray State Park\n(Oklahoma) on Saturday\, February 28 th for the traditional Wine & Cheese Party / Arctic\nDive. We would like to invite any interested divers and non-divers to join us. Lake\nMurray State Park is located about twenty-four miles north of the Texas border just off I-\n35 and 7 miles northeast of Marietta\, OK. This is an easy day trip. Only 1:30 – 2:00\nhours from DFW. A map of Lake Murray State Park with Marietta Landing campground\nnoted is included below. \nDIVING\nAlthough there is no official time for diving scheduled\, there is an unofficial dive time at\n11: 00 AM at the campground boat ramp area. Should you not be able to make that\ntime\, the lake is continually open for your diving pleasure on an ad hoc basis\, so you\ncan make your own arrangement\, if desired. It should be understood that one needs to\nbe prepared for cold water diving\, so bring the appropriate gear (thick wet suits or dry\nsuits). \nWINE AND CHEESE CONTEST\nWe will have our famous and traditional wine and cheese contest where we utilize a\npanel of just slightly less than sommelier-quality judges (if you don’t have an entry\, you\ncan be a judge) who will rate and award prizes for best red wine\, best white wine\, worst\nwine\, and best cheese. The judging will begin about 3:30 PM. So\, scour your wine cellar\nor favorite liquor store to bring your best/worst red and white wines that will be judged\nby an erudite panel of vintner wannabes who will closely taste and scrutinize the entries\nfor bouquet\, flavor\, clarity\, and all such hoity-toity wine things. We will award “winner”\ngift certificates for first prize for the best red and white wines. Also award a “loser” gift\ncertificate for the worst wine. After the wine contest\, we will choose the best cheese\,\nand the winner will also win a gift certificate (no entries for worst cheese\, please!!). We\nneed judges for both contests\, so if you are not a contest participant or related to a\ncontest participant and would like to judge\, please let me know.  Please bring your\nbottles uncorked to the judging site and place them in the provided labeled paper bags\nto maintain the “secrecy” of the process. After the conclusion of the contest\, please feel\nfree to incorporate the left-over wine and cheese into the forthcoming meal. \nFOOD\nThe Diving Rebels plan to serve a meal at about 4:30 pm\, consisting of a main dish of\nbrisket\, turkey\, and sausage. Whether you’re here to hunt for “river treasures” or just enjoy a relaxing drift dive\, it’s going to be a great day on the water.\nFull info packet \n\n📍 Schedule & Logistics\n\nMeeting Point: Rio Vista Park (Parking Area) to gear up.\nArrival Time: Please arrive early enough to be geared up by 1:00 PM.\nEntry Point: After gearing up\, we will shuttle to the Aquarena Springs Drive bridge.\nThe Dive: A group photo will be taken at the entry point. We will then enjoy a 1-mile drift dive\, exiting back at Rio Vista Park.\nDuration: Expect to be underwater for 45–90 minutes\, depending on your pace and trash collection.\n\n✋ Volunteers Needed: We need a few volunteers to help shuttle divers from the exit back to the entry point. We will then enjoy a 1-mile drift dive\, exiting back at Rio Vista Park.\nDuration: Expect to be underwater for 45–90 minutes\, depending on your pace and trash collection.\n\n✋ Volunteers Needed: We need a few volunteers to help shuttle divers from the exit back to the entry point. DESCRIPTION:Hey all\, the Luau is almost here! \nThis annual funfest – a combo Scubadillo and Diving Rebels event – is a day to get out of the house\, dive\, enjoy some games in the water and on land\, eat\, party\, and hang with your favorite fun divers. You don’t want to miss it! It’s also the Scubadillos’ annual fundraiser. \n🎟️ Tickets & Admission\n\nLuau Ticket: $10 per person (plus a $0.30 credit card fee) until June 10th (after that $15 at the event). Both members and non-members require a ticket.\nHow to buy: Purchase online at Scubadillos GivingFuel or grab them in person at the June 4th monthly meeting.\nPark Entry Fee: Please note that Wheeler Branch Reservoir Park charges its own entry fee of $10 per person at the gate.\n\n📍 Where & When\n\nLocation: Wheeler Branch Reservoir Park\, Glen Rose\, TX\nVibe: A scenic lake park that is the absolute ideal venue for swimming\, diving\, dry-land games\, and water competitions!\nAttire: It’s a Luau! Bust out your favorite tropical shirts\, grass skirts\, and island attire.\n\n🤿 Diving Details\nWheeler Branch has plenty to explore\, including a dive platform\, a sunken bus\, a helicopter\, and tons of fish! \n\nTiming: Diving begins in the morning or as soon as you arrive. If you plan to dive\, please arrive early (around 11:00 AM).\nConditions: Expect surface temps in the low 70s. However\, it gets chilly past the various thermoclines! The lake reaches depths past 60 feet for true deep dives.\nGear Recommendations: A 5mm wetsuit is highly recommended. If you plan to go deep\, treat it like a night dive—it gets dark but the water gets beautifully clear! Be sure to bring proper hoods\, gloves\, and dive lights.\nAir/Tanks: There are no air fill stations at the park\, so be sure to bring all the tanks and weights you need for the day!\n\n🍔 Food\, Refreshments & Park Amenities\n\nThe Main Course: Provided by the Scubadillos!\nPotluck: Please bring a favorite side dish or dessert to share with the group. Please add your side dish to the Side dish signup sheet.\nHydration: Remember to bring your own water and refreshments (no alcohol is allowed in the park).\nur Setup: We have rented the large pavilion\, which offers lots of shade and seating for everyone to relax and socialize!\nRestrooms: Clean restroom facilities are conveniently available on-site right near our setup.\nComfort Tips: While we have great pavilion coverage\, feel free to bring along your own camp chairs and plenty of sunscreen for when you’re hanging out down by the water.\n\n🏆 Get Ready to Compete!\nGames will include horseshoes\, batting\, a water balloon toss\, and a water cup toss\, along with water cannons and water bucket competitions for two-person teams. Prizes will be awarded! Bring your Frisbees if you like. \nThis is a family-friendly event\, and kids are more than welcome to participate! \n🚗 Getting There\nGlen Rose is about 77 miles from DFW Airport\, off Hwy 67 south of the Fort Worth area and slightly southwest of Waxahachie. It makes for an easy day trip from Dallas! \nDriving Directions:\nFrom the Dallas area\, take I-35 past the Dallas Zoo and take the right-hand split on Hwy. 67 to Duncanville\, Cedar Hill\, Midlothian\, Alvarado\, and Cleburne. In Glen Rose\, take Bo Gibbs Blvd. (CR 301) near the Expo Center/La Quinta intersection and go a half-mile west to see the park entrance\, where you will veer left at the “Y” intersection onto CR 326.
