DESCRIPTION:We are fortunate to have a return visit from Nancy McGee\, a diver of world renown who is a member of the Women Divers Hall of Fame.The Explorers Club has recognized her as a Fellow for contributions to scientific knowledge in the field of geographical exploration\, which include underwater filming in locations so remote that local natives have never before seen Western people. Known as Ms. Exosuit\, AKA the Pachyderm Princess\, she is the first female Exosuit pilot as well as a magazine centerfold (next to a 3000 lb. swimming elephant). Nancy has also served as the long-time business manager for Stan Waterman\, the legendary underwater filmmaker. \nShe will be presenting a tribute to Stan Waterman\, who passed away at the age of 100 on August 10. Stan\, a diving icon\, was an American cinematographer and underwater film producer who won 5 Emmy awards. Then around 3 p.m.\, we’ll have our ever-popular Bavarian-style feast\, followed by carving judging\, awarding of prizes. \nWe’re back at Tyler State Park. We’ll meet at the day-use area past the swim beach. Look for our bright yellow club banners and signs. \nActivities start before noon as contestants bring their pre-cleaned\, gutted pumpkin to the event area (by the banners\, signs\, etc.). Clean your pumpkin at home! Then everyone – divers and spectators – will move to the sandy swim beach area to gear up for the noon dive. \nThis year’s theme: “Barbieheimer”Categories: Open category (accessories allowed – have to be assembled before surfacing)Old-school (No accessories – just the pumpkin) \nStart gearing up at 11 a.m. The underwater fun begins at noon. Contestants have one hour to create their masterpiece carving while underwater. Prizes will be awarded for winning pumpkins. \nCost: The event is FREE for Scubadillo members. DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Scuba Ranch in Terrell \nSaturday\, Aug. 19 at 9:30 a.m. \nFor those of us unfortunate enough not to go to Cozumel\, let’s do a local dive at The Scuba Ranch. \nFirst dive around 10 a.m.\, so arrive earlier than that to set up. \nWe’ll do a second dive also. There will be time to fill your tank ($10) or time to rest if you bring two tanks or if you do two dives on a single tank. \nBring a snack and if there is interest\, we can have lunch at a local restaurant in Terrell after the second dive. Suggestions are welcome. \nVisibility has been good the last several weeks. Yes\, it’s a long drive (let me know if you want to car pool) but it’s a new place for the club. It’s a very scenic area too.\nSchedule: \n Long drive so it’s recommended to drive down the day before\n Dive#1 Saturday 10am (approximately)\n Lunch – grill at the park\n Dive #2: 2 pm (approximately)\n Dinner at restaurant – TBD \nAlternatives for Sunday: \nDive Clear Lake if you have the certification for it (I’ll make a reservation)\n Dive North Park again – checkout is 2pm from the Park\n Dive Overlook park – free and different from North Park\, but the shore entry is more difficult – you have to haul your gear down from parking to shore – a cart is definitely recommended. \nWe have two sites for Friday night and Saturday night to be able to dive the park. Note that they allow 3 cars per site so ride sharing from hotel to lake is recommended.\nAccommodation alternatives: \n Primitive camping at North Park.
