SUMMARY:Underwater Easter Egg Hunt @ Tyler State Park
DESCRIPTION:We skipped it last year due to bad weather\, but we’re back with the eggs and\, hopefully\, sunshine! \nJoin us for our annual Underwater Easter Egg Hunt. Eggs will be suspended from the bottom\, so they’ll be easy to see. We’ll be at Tyler State Park\, which is close enough for those who want to day-trip it. \nCosts\nPark entrance fee is $6 per adult and free for kids up to 12 years old. MUST SHOW C-CARD IF YOU DIVE! \nMeal and hunt are FREE to paid Dillo members and $10 for everyone else. OR\, you can pay your annual Scubadillo membership ($36.50 for individual\, $46.50 for family) here online\, and enjoy all the 2025 events for free (except our fundraiser luau in June). \nSchedule\n11:30ish – Lunch at the “Day Use” Picnic area south of the swimming area. The Dillos will supply water and grilled hamburgers. Bring a side dish to share. \n1 p.m. – Staging at the swimming area\n2 p.m. – The hunt is on!!! \nPrizes for 1st\, 2nd and 3rd-place winners. \nRSVP\, please\nTo ensure we have enough hamburgers\, please let us know you’re coming. Use this RSVP/food sign-up sheet and let us know what you’re bringing. \nThe dive\nWe should have 6- to 10-foot visibility. Eggs will be floating on a string at about 8-15 feet\, 5-mil wet suit or thicker. Depends on how hardy you are. Bottom time is about 30 minutes. Bring a mesh bag to collect your eggs. \nHow to get there \nTyler State Park is located approximately 90 miles east of Dallas on I-20. Take exit 562 toward FM 14/Hawkins/Tyler and turn left on FM 14 (State Park Highway). The park is two miles north of Tyler. Turn left on Park Road 16 to the park’s entrance. \nContinue on Park Road 16\, keep left to stay on the south side of the lake until you reach Brown’s Point in the Day-Use Picnic area south of the swimming area. Look for our big yellow Scubadillo banner and yellow T-shirts. \nTIP: Buy your entry pass online now. Park officials are managing the crowds during this popular spring time. \nFins up!

SUMMARY:San Marcos river cleanup (with Rebels)
DESCRIPTION:The Diving Rebels and the Scubadillos will continue what has become an annual tradition of the underwater cleanup of the San Marcos River on Saturday\, January 25th\, 2025.  As usual\, we will meet at the parking area of Rio Vista Park to gear up.  Once folks have geared up\, we will be shuttled to the parking area near the Aquarena Springs Drive bridge\, from where we plan to enter the water.  Last year\, Mike Schaefer\, a former Dillo member now living in San Marcos\, coordinated the shuttle operation with members of the Kissing Tree Pool Club there in San Marcos.  This was greatly appreciated and Mike will have his club assist in this again this year.  Please see the attached map noting these locations. \nWe want to get in the water about 1 PM\, so please plan your arrival accordingly.  Before we get in the water\, we will get everyone together for a group photo there at the access point below at Aquarena Springs Drive bridge.  We will exit at Rio Vista Park\, about one mile downstream.  The attached map also notes the exit location. For the most part\, this is a relaxing fresh-water drift dive and in some places early in the dive you can just obtain a stable\, motionless position and let the current move you along.  Depending on the water level\, there may be some rather shallow spots about one-halfway along the dive\, but these are navigable. \nThe underwater distance is about one mile and folks spend anywhere from 45 – 90 minutes underwater\, depending on their trash gathering efforts. \nIf you would like to participate in the underwater cleanup\, please bring a mesh bag of some sort to collect the trash/treasures you may find.  Extra mesh bags will be available if you don’t have one.  If you prefer to just drift along for the ride and not collect trash\, that is certainly permissible as we want you to enjoy the dive. \nWe will have 1st and 2nd place prizes for the collector of the most trash and as well as 1st and 2nd place prizes for the collector of the most unusual piece of trash\, as voted by the participants.  So\, bring your mesh laundry bags and/or onion sacks and be prepared to scour the river bottom for collectables. \nAs usual\, Steve Ogden (me) is the outing coordinator\, and my cell number is (214) 641-6013.  If you would like to participate in this event and either did not sign up at the Rebels January meeting or are a member of the Dillos whose meeting was a weather casualty\, please contact me either at my cell number via either call or text.  Also\, let me know if you will join us for dinner\, noted below.  For the day of the outing\, call me if you are running a bit late so we know to wait for you.  If anyone is interested in carpooling\, you can either make your own arrangements or contact me. \nAfter the dive\, for those who are interested\, we will meet for our traditional Saturday evening dinner together. Let’s gather to cheer and share good stories with fellow Dillos at our annual Christmas Party\, Saturday\, Dec. 14. \nYou don’t want to miss this! \nScubadillos will provide the turkey and ham. Y’all bring the sides. \nWe’ll have a silent auction with some pretty fabulous dive- and non-dive-related goodies. And we’ll raffle off two $50 gift certificates to ScubaToys. \nWe’ll also have our “Deco Santa” gift exchange\, max value $25. With all the fun stealing from one another\, it is a crowd favorite! Bring a wrapped item to share in the frivolity. \nMembers and guests. All are welcome! We look forward to seeing you. \nThe details \nParty starts at 6 p.m.\nLook for the yellow Dillo sign to point you into the complex. Look for tennis courts.\nThere’s plenty of parking.\nCost: Free to members. Guests pay $10. Better yet\, join as a 2024 member (early-bird rate of $25 per person\, $40 per family)\, and the party is included. Yes\, there are great benefits to being an official Dillo member.\nBring a side dish. SIGN UP BELOW on the spreadsheet. This also lets us know how many are coming.\nIt’s BYOB. Bring your favorite beverage and mixers.\nBring $$ for the silent auction and raffle!
